Pioneer Kitchen and Shepherd’s Hall
On our upper level, you will find the Shepherd’s Hall and our Pioneer Kitchen:
- Displays depicting the sheep industry, including early shearing equipment and a cloth covered sheep wagon
- An 1884 Lithograph of the town of Spearfish, drawn from on top of Lookout Mountain
- Displays of early religious and school related items
- Branding Irons from many of the local ranches
- A large Saddle Display
- Brand Books from the early years of South Dakota
- A Stone Johnny, which exemplifies those piled up by local sheep herders and cowboys to pass the time and which served as landmarks on the flat plains
- Documentation of the histories of many of the early ranching families in this area
- The Pioneer Kitchen which contains many items typically used in early ranch kitchens
